I am an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department at the University of California, San Diego. I obtained my PhD at Harvard University in 2018. I work in Classical Greek philosophy. My work focuses on ancient theories of the soul, with an emphasis on ethics, moral psychology, and epistemology in Plato and Aristotle. I am interested in the connection between affective states and intellectual capabilities, species of human motivation, and the extent to which Ancient moral psychological models are shaped by the recognition that we are social beings by nature. I have written on Plato and Aristotle’s views on the passions, pleasure, practical wisdom, the virtues of character, and friendship. Additionally, I have projects on representations of women, race, and ethnicity in ancient philosophy. I have written and taught courses on philosophical conceptions of non-human animals in Antiquity and the history of vegetarianism. I also have an ongoing interest in the history of medicine, and I have written on Galen’s views on philosophy of mind and teleology.
